CANA, Va. — Mrs. Alma Lee Chappell Sechrist, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, 86, of Cana, Va., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Dec, 17, 2013, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. She was born June 27, 1927, in Carroll County, Va., to the late Andrew Alexander and Nancy Lucena Tate Chappell. Mrs. Sechrist was a homemaker and seamstress and a member of Faith Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Frances and Robert Richardson of Mount Airy, Carolyn and Donnie Goad of Winston-Salem, Nancy and Donald Bryant of Woodlawn, Va., Audrey and Michael Mills of Mount Airy, Barbara and Bobby Bullins of Mount Airy, and Mary Ann and Butch Ramey of Winston-Salem; sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Judy Sechrist of Mount Airy, Ralph and Beverly Sechrist of Rockwell, Charles and Laura Sechrist of Martinsville, Va., Tim and Dianne Sechrist of Elkin, Gary and Kim Sechrist of Cana, Va., and Jonathan and Kathy Sechrist of Westfield; 43 grandchildren; 73 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Junior Gwyn of Las Vega; a brother, James Chappell of Cana, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sechrist was preceded in death by her husband, Grady Leewood Sechrist; a grandchild, Melissa Bullins; sisters, Esterlene Arrington, Ruth Welch, Marie Gwyn, Flora Holder and Gladys Starling; brothers, Bill Chappell and Roscoe Gwyn; and two infant siblings. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Faith Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Randy Edwards and Alma's sons and sons-in-law with interment to follow at Epworth United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Sechrist will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends on Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Howell Funeral Chapel of Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted and memorials may be made to The Salvation Army, 651 S.
