Bobby Park

ELKIN — Bobby Winfield Park, 86, of Elkin, passed away on Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at his home. Mr. Park was born in Surry County on Jan. 5, 1927, to the late James and Beulah Sloop Park. Mr. Park served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1944 to 1946. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and was an avid farmer. He served Surry Telephone Membership Corporation for 34 years on the board of directors and as an officer. Mr. Park also served on the N.C. Farm Bureau Federation Board since 1976, with the N.C. Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company since 1969, and also with the Surry County Farm Bureau in many capacities since 1964 and was president at one time. He was very dedicated and active to both Surry Telephone and Farm Bureau. In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sybil Park; an infant daughter, Elaine Park; a sister, Ruby Faye Couch; and a brother, Roger Park. Mr. Park is survived by two sons, Michael D. Park of State Road and Phillip G. Park of Elkin; sisters, Marie Combs and husband, Bud, of Elkin, Louise Coram of Raleigh and Sadie Martin and husband, Ernest, of Elkin; a granddaughter, Lindsey M. Park; a special caregiver, Victoria Sepeda; and several loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at Friendship Baptist Church led by the Rev. Jonah Parker, Pastor Jerry Fugate, and Gary York. Mr. Park will lie in state from 2:30 to 3 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Friendship Baptist Church, 633 Friendship Church Road, Elkin, NC 28621.
