MOUNT AIRY — Ms. Brenda Jane Venable Dunning, 69, of Mount Airy, passed away at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center on Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013. She was born in Surry County on March 6, 1944, to the late Coy Elzephan and Lottie Sawyers Venable. Ms. Dunning retired from Moses Cone Behavioral Health Center and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mount Airy. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Rodney Blane of Farmville, Va., and Tammy Dunning of Mount Airy; two grandchildren, Sarah Katherine Dunning and Olivia Rae Dunning; a sister, Jackie Lanier of High Point; two brothers-in-law, David Sellers of Whiteville and Graham Tilley of Mount Airy; and many special nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Ms. Dunning was preceded in death by four sisters, Josie O'Neal, Cleo Taylor, Betty Tilley and Peggy Sellers; and three brothers, Gilbert, Ed and Wilford Venable. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, at First Baptist Church in Mount Airy with Dr. Roger Gilbert officiating. Burial will follow in the Little Mountain Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy from 6 to 8 p.m., where she will remain until the time to be taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.
