James Wilson

James Monroe Wilson, 85, of Mount Airy, NC passed away Friday, January 10, 2014, at his home. He was born in Forsyth County, NC, on September 9, 1928 to the late Joe Wilson and Cora Leigh Smith Wilson. He was retired from McCraw Everhart Heating and Air Conditioning and an active member of Simmons Grove Baptist Church. He served for over 50 years in the Old Hickory Council of Boy Scouts of America; served as Scout Leader of Troop 542; and made 8 trips to Philmont, New Mexico, the largest Scout Ranch in the United States. Surviving to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 65 years, Opal Simmons Wilson; two sons James Ricky Wilson and wife, Barbara and Timothy Dale Wilson; three grandchildren, Amy Wilson McBride and husband Charles, Laura Wilson Leftwich and husband, Josh, Adam Eugene Wilson and wife, Jennifer; three great-grandchildren, Skylar Leigh Hamm, Hannah Grace Leftwich, and Emily Grace McBride; a sister, Thelma Willard; and a brother, Bobby Wilson. Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be on Monday, January 13, 2014, at Simmons Grove Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jimmy Cain, Rev. Johnson Gupton, and Rev. Alan Branch officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 13, 2014, at Simmons Grove Baptist Church from 1:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service. They will remain at the church after the committal service to fellowship with their friends. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery. Floral tributes will be accepted or memorials may be made to Simmons Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Harvey Stephens, Jr., 109 Sapphire Lane, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041 or the Scholarship Fund at Surry Community College for Boy Scouts, Dobson, NC 27017.
