Janice Hiatt

MOUNT AIRY — Mrs. Janice Linda Holt Hiatt, 79, of Mount Airy, went to be with the Lord late Thursday afternoon, Oct. 3, 2013, while surrounded by her loving family. She was born Dec.10, 1933, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Carl and Dora Lowry Hawks. Janice retired from Proctor-Silex Inc. after 35 years of service and attended East Side Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. Once diagnosed with Throat cancer three years ago Janice never gave up. She never complained, maintaining a brave and cheerful outlook of an optimistic future - even through countless radiation and chemotherapy treatments, surgeries, X-rays, hospitalizations and pain, she continued to be an inspiration to all who met her and be involved with her family and friends through their daily lives offering her love and support to them. Filled with compassion and interest in others, Janice was loved by all who knew her. She never met a stranger, and was a very giving person who loved doing for others. Before her illness, Janice helped open and worked at the Mount Pilot Country Store. She loved working daily at the store and meeting the people who came into the store to shop or a lot of times just to visit with her. She prayed everyday that she would be a blessing to someone and touch their lives through her faith in God. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Mitzi and Sam Aldridge of Pinnacle, Donna and Steve Chilton of Pilot Mountain and Anita Arrington of Mount Airy; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky and Joan Holt of Mount Airy and James Gary and Penny Holt of Mount Airy; 14 grandchildren Kevin Heath, Kisha Cook, Austin Aldridge, Rebekah Browder, Brian Chilton, Jamie Johnston, Misty Holt, George Gates, Misty Chilton, Cody Arrington, Kelsey Holt Dunkes, Jackson Holt, Corey France and Tyler France; and 14 great-grandchildren Isaiah Gillespie, Rylee and Christian Cook, Bentley Browder, Haley and Tyler Chilton, Hannah and Cameron Johnston, Daisy, Nicholas and Joseph Holt, Savannah Starkey, Athen Dunkes and Meghan Gillespie.
