MOUNT AIRY — Mrs. Jewell Dean Wagoner Carter McHone, 75, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, at Golden Living-Surry Community in Mount Airy. She was born in Forsyth County on April 24, 1938, to the late Marvin William and Jessie Key Wagoner. Mrs. McHone retired from The Mount Airy News and was a member of Victory Baptist Church. She taught piano privately for 40 years. She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, Jon and Jeanette Carter of Mount Airy, and Marc Carter of Richmond, Va.; a grandchild, Jonathan Jereme Carter of Daytona Beach, Fla.; uncle and aunt, Ray and Lorene Key of Mount Airy; closest cousins, Phyllis and Stanley Rose, and Gary Pruett, all of Mount Airy; and her very best friend and caregiver, Sandra Newman of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. McHone was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin McHone. A graveside service will be held Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Skyline Memory Gardens with the Rev. Joey Jessup officiating. Entombment will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 8 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.
