STUART, Va. — Mrs. Magaline Ayers Thomas, 81, who resided at Landmark Center in Stuart, for the past 11 years, died Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. She was born April 11, 1932, in Patrick County to the late Robert Lee and Susie Collins Ayers. Mrs. Thomas retired from Spencers and Sara Lee and was of the Baptist faith. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Audrey and Jerry Jessup of Westfield, Ann and Fred Lighthaul of Mount Airy and Janice and Ricky Secrest of Mount Airy; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry Dean Thomas and Jackie of Mount Airy and Kenny Wayne Thomas and Jessie of Cana; 33 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sisters, Effie Pruitt of Hillsville, Sylvia Ayers of Martinsville and Mary McMillian of Mount Airy; and brother, James Ayers of Laurel Fork. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Walter Thomas; daughter, Mary Tipton Thomas; and son, Raymond Michael Thomas. Funeral service will be held on Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Howell Funeral Chapel of Mount Airy, conducted by the Rev. Larry Thomas and the Rev. Ronnie Hall with interment to follow at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Howell Funeral Service of Mount Airy and other times at the home of her daughter, Janice Secrest, 1451 Blue Hollow Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
