ELKIN — The Rev. Roby Floyd Wilcox, 91, of Elkin, passed away Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. He was born Jan. 1, 1922, in Todd to Floyd Roby Wilcox and Bessie Grogan Wilcox. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII. Rev. Wilcox was retired from Chatham Manufacturing with 38 years of service and was pastor of Friendly Tabernacle in Mount Airy for 47 years. He attended Ronda Church of God. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son, Dennis Wilcox; two brothers; and seven sisters. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Bertha Mae Payne Wilcox of the home; son, Roby Dean Wilcox and his wife Phyllis of Elkin; daughter-in-law, Frances Wilcox of Clingman; brother, Johnny Wilcox of North Wilkesboro; sister, Ruth Anderson of Walkertown; grandchildren, Tim Wilcox and his wife Valerie, Jeff Wilcox and his wife Amy, R.J. Wilcox and Melissa Wilcox; and great-grandchildren, Nicholas Wilcox, Kendall Wilcox, Branton Wilcox, Sydney Wilcox, Nathan Wilcox and William Henry Wilcox. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Central Full Gospel with the Rev. Bobby Norman and the Rev. Jody Bewley officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by Yadkin VFW Post 10346 will follow in Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
