MOUNT AIRY — Mr. Alfred Smith Holcomb, Sr. age, 77 of Mount Airy passed away Sunday April 13, 2014 at the UNC Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill. Mr. Holcomb was born in Surry County, November 28, 1936 the son of the late Hugh Lindsay Holcomb, Sr. and Helen Smith Holcomb. Mr. Holcomb was retired from Pine State Knitwear where he and his brother were co-owners and he served as executive vice-president. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having attained the rank of Lieutenant and served in the Far East for two years. Mr. Holcomb was a member of Central United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Dolly Casagrande Holcomb of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Buffy and Steve Fussell of Mount Airy; one son and daughter-in-law, Bucky and Kim Holcomb of Mount Airy; his grandchildren, Chip Fussell and wife, Jenn, Drew Fussell and his wife, Kellye, Bryce Holcomb, Blair Holcomb, Elise Holcomb; great-grandchildren, Graylyn Fussell and Trey Fussell; stepdaughters, Marita Greene and husband, Terry of Las Vegas, NV, Roberta Bebout and husband, Rick of Gainesville, FL; stepgrandchildren, Carly Holt, and Joshua Ward; brother, Lindsay Holcomb, Jr. and wife Barbara of Mount Airy. Funeral services will be held Wednesday April 16, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Central United Methodist Church in Mount Airy with Rev. Jim Pyatt and Dr. Julian M. Aldridge, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The Holcomb family will receive friends in the Ladies' Parlor of Central United Methodist Church from 1:00 until the hour of the service.
