CANA, Va. — Mrs. Betty Lee Parks Easter, 82, of Cana, entered into the Portals of Heaven in the comfort of her home on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, as her loving family gathered around her bedside in a circle of prayer. She was born in Carroll County on Feb. 7, 1931, to the late Allen Lloyd and Hattie Thelma Leonard Parks. Mrs. Easter was a homemaker and a dedicated member of New Bethel Baptist Church as long as her health permitted. She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 64 years, Carl William Easter of the home; four beloved daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Jimmy Hiatt and Georgia and Gary McMillian, all of Cana, Patsy and Billy Barr of Fancy Gap and Nancy and Lonnie Utt Jr. of Mount Airy; eight grandchildren, Denise Westendorf, Brian Busick, Steven McMillian, Jason McMillian, Vanessa Smith, Kimberly Kern, Matthew Utt and Joshua Utt; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Doris Hughes of Asheboro; a brother, Walter Gray Parks of Springfield; and a brother-in-law, the Rev. George Simmons of Asheboro. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Easter was preceded in death by a sister, Christine Simmons; a brother, Robert Allen "Bobby" Parks and his wife, Flo Parks; and a great-granddaughter, McKenzie Busick. Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Moody Funeral Home of Mount Airy on Monday, Nov. 17, 2013, at 1 p.m. by the Rev. Jimmy McCraw and the Rev. Dennis Bledsoe and Hospice Chaplain, Jerry Keegan with burial to follow in the Easter Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family wishes to express its heartfelt gratitude to her caregivers, Lucretia Edwards, Tina Combs and Shelby Graybeal and the entire staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, especially Misty Easter for their loving and compassionate care.
