DOBSON — Mr. Billy Gray Gillespie, age 77, of Dobson, passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2018, at the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem. He was born in Surry County, on January 21, 1941, to the late Wesley and Myrtle Hudson Gillespie. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Lionel Gillespie; and brother-in-law Howard Childress. He was retired from Spencer's Manufacturing in Mount Airy, was a lifelong farmer, and was a veteran of the US Army. He attended Crossroads Baptist Church. Surviving is his wife, Juanita Shockley Gillespie of the home; two sons and daughter-in-law, Tony and Julie Gillespie of Mount Airy; Curtis Gillespie of Dobson; six grandchildren, Nicholas, Megan, Wesley, Savannah, Matthew, and Madison Gillespie; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Faye and Hugh Secrest of Dobson, Doris Childress of Dobson, Betty and Robert Nichols of Mount Airy; three brothers and four sisters-in-law, Benton and Judy Gillespie of Dobson, Pete and Mildred Gillespie of Mount Airy, Melvin and Joyce Gillespie of Dobson, and Edna Sisk of Mount Airy. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, August 30, at Crossroads Baptist Church in Dobson, with burial to follow in the church cemetery with full Military Honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Honor Guard Mount Airy Post 2019, and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. Rev. Jeff Wall and Rev. Alton Bledsoe will officiate the services. The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home of Dobson, on Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crossroads Baptist Church, PO Box 404 Dobson, NC 27017.
