MOUNT AIRY — Mrs. Blanche Virginia Fulford Wilde, 92, of Mount Airy, passed away at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013. She was born in Norfolk, Va., on Oct. 2, 1921, to the late Q. and Blanche Hoffman Fulford. She attended college in Richmond where she studied fashion design and went on to New York for modeling. Marrying a Naval Aviator, her life was filled with excitement, travel and family. Mrs. Wilde's flamboyant personality was shown in the costumes she designed for her ballroom dance competitions and her beautiful paintings. She was a stunning woman who loved and cared for her family expressing strong faith throughout her life. After her husband's retirement, Mrs. Wilde and her husband worked closely with the Special Olympics and Special Education. They loved animals and permitted their children assist with animal rescue. Left to cherish her memory are two daughters and a son-in-law, Blanche Elizabeth "Sweety" Wilde of the home, and Carol Lee and Dexter Street of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wilde was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Woodrow Wilde. A graveside service will be conducted at Colonial Grove Memorial Park in Virginia Beach, Va., at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013.
