MOUNT AIRY — Mrs. Casteen Hazel Pruitt Cox, 89, of Mount Airy, passed away at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home Friday, Dec. 20, 2013. She was born in Patrick County, Va., on Nov. 2, 1924, to the late Joshua and Nannie Kate Rogers Pruitt. Mrs. Cox was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a member of Bannertown Baptist Church. Mrs. Cox is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Nan and Robin Atkins of Pilot Mountain, and Gina Cox of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Johnny and Frankie Cox of Mount Airy; four grandchildren, Jamie Cox, John Cox, Tiffany Poore, and Josh Cox; seven great-grandchildren, Ian, Brady, Reese, Holden and Eli Cox, and Addison and Aiden Poore; and a sister, Margaret Smith of Mount Airy. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by her husband, James Washington Cox; and several brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy with Ben Webb officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, from 6 until 8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
