MOUNT AIRY — Mrs. Diane Poteat Edwards, 61, of Mount Airy, died at the home of her daughter on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014. She was born in Pike County, Ky., on Sept. 29, 1952, to the late William Calloway and Elizabeth Flannery Poteat. Mrs. Edwards was an amazing woman, a loving wife, fabulous mother and doting grandmother. Surviving are her husband, James Edwards of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Christopher Oswald of Greensboro; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Russell and Leigh Edwards of Hope Mills, and Stephen Edwards of Aurora, Colo.; grandchildren, Annelise Diana Oswald, Caroline Victoria Oswald and Haley Elizabeth Edwards; a brother, Alvin Poteat of Mount Airy; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Alice and Warren Beasley of Mount Airy, Shirley Ann and Joseph Ellis Hawks of Matthews, Wanda Faye and Larry Conner of Mount Airy, Brenda Gail and Ronnie Allen of Mount Airy, and Ray Bryant of Mount Airy; a sister-in-law, Robin Poteat of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian Chandler and Oma Lee Bryant; and a brother, Richard Poteat. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Larry Graham officiating. Burial will follow in the Indian Grove Community Cemetery.
