Mr. Donald David "Coach" Price, 52, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday, June 17, 2016, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Price was born November 18, 1963, in Guilford County, the son of the late Raymond Roscoe and Geraldine "Gerry" Geer Price. Donald graduated from Monroe High School and Appalachian State University, where he was a long snapper for the football team. He had been an assistant football coach at Mount Airy High School since 1993, and served as the athletic director for the school since 2003. He was widely respected by his peers and the students at Mount Airy High School, where he was a favorite to speak at the service of celebration at graduation. He was recently selected as the 2016 Mount Airy High School Teacher of the Year. This past April, Donald was inducted into the Greater Mount Airy Sports Hall of Fame. He was also named the 2016 North Carolina Soccer Coaches Association Administrator of the Year. Surviving are three sisters and a brother in law, Jeanelle "Nelle" Price Hutchinson and James David Hutchinson of Greensboro, and Linda Hall and Mae Price, both of Greensboro; his brother, Lee Price of Jamestown; his nieces, Adrian Hutchinson and Rachel Nolan and her husband, Nick; and a nephew, Ethan Hutchinson. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at 1:00 PM at Mount Airy High School Gymnasium. The service will be conducted by Dr. Jon Cawley, Mr. Tom Merritt, Mr. Kelly Holder, Dr. Sandy George, Mr. Chad Beasley and Mr. Ben Cooke. Burial will be at 1:00 PM Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at the Price Family Cemetery in Buntontown, TN. The family will receive friends Monday, June 20, 2016, from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Mount Airy Youth Foundation, P.O. Box 6353, Mount Airy, NC 27030; Shelton Church of the Brethren, 1065 Quaker Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030; or the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017. I was honered to be his pastor for a time and Ill always remember the things he did for my sons when they played for him. He was a wonderful man who did so much for ALL the kids he taught and coached. Im sure my sons have greeted him in Heaven by now. They all are at peace.
