GALAX, Va. — Ethan Douglas Funk, 23, of Galax, Va., passed away unexpectedly at his home on Dec. 15, 2013. Ethan was born in Galax, April 14, 1990, the son of Angela Schmoll and William Douglas Funk. He grew up in North Carolina and was a 2008 graduate of Surry Central High School and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Ararat, NC. He loved video games, skateboarding, his family and friends, and computers. He was most recently employed at First Baptist Church of Galax where he was a member of the tech team using his computer knowledge to help combine video and graphics for the church worship service. He is survived by his parents, Angela and Andreas Schmoll of Mount Airy, and William Funk of Fancy Gap, Va.; his sister and brother-in-law, Genesis and Josh Dowd of Mount Airy; three nieces, Evelyn, Ellynor, and Elisabeth Dowd of Mount Airy; his grandparents, Bobby J. and Evelyn Beamer of Woodlawn, Va., and Nellie Funk of Galax.; stepgrandparents, Ron and Gail Schmoll of Asheville; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; and many dear friends. Graveside services will be held Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, at Crooked Creek Baptist Church Cemetery beginning at 1 p.m. Pastor Sam Bartlett will officiate.
