Obituary Condolences

Joan Blondall Williams was welcomed home by her heavenly father on August 25, 2018. She was born October 29, 1939, to the late John Thomas Smith and Gracie Tucker. Joan graduated from J.J. Jones High School in Mount Airy and was a highly admired and professionally trained seamstress and baker. She was also a certified nurse's aide and interior designer. Joan walked in a spirit of excellence in all that she did. She was well respected in her community, on the job, and in ministry. Joan worked at Perry Manufacturing as a seamstress and trainer, where she retired after over 50 years of employment. She served as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, and member of the missionary board at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Mount Airy for many years until she stepped out on faith and assisted her husband in planting a ministry in Whiteville. Joan lived her life and she loved her life. And even more than that, she loved the Lord. Joan has left a strong legacy behind to cherish her memory. Her daughter, Pastor Venessa Hughes of High Point; two sons, John (Bill) William Hughes of Chapel Hill and Leon Anthony Hughes of Durham; three grandchildren, Pastor Nichica F. Melton (Rodney) of Greensboro Jimmie Lavadus Flippen of Charlotte and Lakita Hughes of Murfreesboro; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Barr of Mount Airy Willie Mae Slate of Maryland; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Preceding her in death are her husband H. Charles Williams; her sisters, Ellen Petrena Williams, Mary Lou Andrews, and Opal Nealey; two brothers, James Thomas Smith and Benny Harden Smith. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday at 1 p.m. on August 31, 2018, at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 423 Nelson Hill Road, Mount Airy interment will follow in the Skyline Memory Gardens, Mount Airy. Family will receive friends from 12 until 1 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Spencer Funeral Directors are in charge of all services and arrangements.
