Margaret Martin Obituary

Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Lovill Martin, age 83, went home to meet her Savior, Jesus Christ. Mrs. Martin was surrounded by her loving family for six months as she bravely battled with cancer. Jesus called this earthly Angel home on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2018. She was born in Mount Airy to parents James Walter Lovill Sr. and Gladys Virginia Warren Lovill, on Dec. 26, 1934. "Marty" was a graduate of Mount Airy High School, class of 1952. She attended Wake Forrest College from 1952 to 1954, and then attended Salem College beginning in 1955 and graduating in 1956. Margaret married the love of her life, Charlie N. Martin Jr., on March 28, 1954. They celebrated their 64th anniversary this year. They were blessed with their beloved daughter Catherine Ann in July 1958. They have been devoted members of Fairview Moravian Church for more than 60 years. They have been active in the choir, volunteering in Fairview's various activities. Marty was a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class, also a member of the Women's Fellowship and the board of Elders several times over the years. She was active in Circle #4. Marty and her husband Charlie enjoyed retreats to Laurel Ridge with church family and friends. Her friends described her as kind and compassionate, and a devoted friend. She was a gentle soul, never saying an unkind word about anyone. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Walter Lovill and Edward Lovell. Margaret is survived by her husband Charlie; one daughter, Cathie and her husband Robert of Colorado; and three grandchildren, Shannon, Patrick and Kelley. Margaret also is survived by four nephews: Jeff Lovill of Aurora, Colorado, Peter Lovill of Mount Airy (fiance Natalie Kowalchuk) Edward (Frank) Lovill Jr. of Mount Airy, and Perry Lovill of St. Petersburg, Florida. Marty enjoyed playing golf and was proud of having had two hole in ones. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 6, at 2 p.m. at Fairview Moravian Church with Rev. Scott Venable officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Moravian Graveyard. The family will receive friends on Thursday at the church from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. Memorials should be made to Fairview Moravian Church, 6550 Silas Creek Parkway Winston-Salem, NC 27106.
