PILOT MOUNTAIN — Mrs. Pauline Szturma Watkins, 93, of Pilot Mountain, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at her home. She was born Aug. 6, 1920, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to the late Stanley and Theresa Bialas Szturma. She was retired from the retail industry and was a member of First Baptist Church of Pilot Mountain. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Steve Spencer of Pilot Mountain and Carrie and Dan Lentz of Wilmington; a son, Grady Watkins Jr. of Ocean Isle; a sister, Nora Reis of Briarcliff, N.Y.; grandchildren, Mary and Darrell Marion of Dobson, Jennifer and Paul Barker of Pilot Mountain, Cynthia and Glenn Lamb of Mount Airy, Rebekah and Andrew Roper, Garrett Fleming, and Charles Fleming, all of Wilmington, Melissa Watkins of Fayetteville, Elizabeth Watkins of Dunn, Bonnie and Dennis Morehead, Debbie and Tom Sedlak, and Greg Watkins, all of Plattsmouth, Neb., and Megan Spencer of King; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Watkins was preceded in death by her husband, Grady F. Watkins Sr.; a son, LTC Warren S. Watkins; and seven brothers and sisters. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2013, at noon at First Baptist Church of Pilot Mountain conducted by the Rev. Rickey Spencer with private interment to follow at the Pilot Mountain City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday at the church from 11 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 129 Veterans Drive, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041, or to a charity of the donor's choice. The family would like to give special thanks to Janice Lawson, Kaye Joyce and the entire staff of Mountain Valley Hospice for the care of their mother.
