MOUNT AIRY — Mrs. Peggy Jo Atkins Simmons, 80, of Mount Airy passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. She was born in Surry County on June 23, 1933, to the late Caleb Winfrey and Pearl Belle Johnson Atkins. Mrs. Simmons was retired from Adelphia Cable and was a member of White Plains Friends Meeting. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Myron David and Emma Simmons, William Mark and Susan Simmons, and Mitchell Todd Simmons, all of Mount Airy; grandchildren and spouses, Brook and Matt Sutphin, Sarah Simmons and fiancé, Chris Snow, Molly Simmons, and Brianna Simmons, all of Mount Airy; great-grandchildren, Maison and Morgan Sutphin of Mount Airy, and Izabel and Tucker Snow of Dobson; sisters and brother-in-law, Pauline Younger, and Jackie and J.B. Cave, all of Mount Airy; sister-in-law, Peggy Atkins of Mount Airy; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her husband, William "Hampton" Simmons; a sister, Faye Atkins Fowler; and four brothers, Walter, Troy, Lonnie and Carl Atkins. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at 3 p.m. at Union Hill Friends Meeting with the Rev. Jake Penley and the Rev. Fonda Younger officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 p.m. until time for the service at the church.
