Ruth Edith Hiatt Bowman of Elkin, NC passed away August 21, 2014 at age 90. She was born on July 30, 1924 in Patrick County, VA to the late William Marion Hiatt and Mimie Evelyn Gwynn Hiatt. She was preceded in death by her Husband Reverend Joseph E Bowman and special friend C.E. Hodges, and sisters Virginia Hiatt, Margaret Leonard and Clara Meredith. Mrs. Bowman is survived by her son Michael E. Bowman (Jayne) of Jamestown, NC; Grandchildren, Angela E. Bowman of Winston-Salem, Renee' B. Price (Randy) of Chattanooga, TN, Joseph M. Bowman (Amanda) of Sophia, NC, Micah P. Bowman (Carolyn) of Charlottesville, VA and Christian M. Bowman (Samantha) of Greensboro, NC, Great-grandchildren Jake and Emily Espinosa, Benjamin Jennings-Bowman and Cael Bowman, Sisters, Esther Dawson and Evelyn Coulson, Special family friends Barbara Bledsoe and Marsha Felts along with several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bowman was active in the church throughout her life. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, playing piano and bible studies. She was a member of Salem Baptist church in Dobson, NC. She retired from Northern Hospital of Surry County in 1993. Prior to her work in the hospital she worked alongside her husband in the apple orchard in Cana, VA and on the farm in Elkin, NC. Mrs. Bowman will be remembered for her love of God, her love for her family, her nurturing and giving heart and her home cooked meals. Funeral services for Mrs. Bowman will be held on Saturday August 23, 2014 at 11:00am at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with Reverend Alton Bledsoe and Reverend Dennis Bledsoe officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Skyline Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6pm-8pm.
