ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. — Virginia Fulk Petretti died peacefully on Jan. 2, 2014, at her home on St. Simons Island after a brief illness. She was the daughter of the late Arthur Percy Fulk and Ida Mae Fulk of Pilot Mountain; the widow of the late Dr. A. Kenneth Petretti; and the mother of Susan and Ellen Petretti, who also preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter, Carol V. Petretti, and son-in-law, James A. McMahon, of Brightwaters, N.Y. She is also survived by her daughter, Anne Knowlson; son-in-law, Donnie Knowlson; and grandchildren, Byron and Paige Knowlson, of Richmond, Va. Born and raised in Pilot Mountain, Virginia graduated from UNC-Greensboro. After her marriage to Ken Petretti, the couple ultimately settled in Brookhaven, N.Y., where they lived and raised their four daughters. Upon retirement in 1987, Virginia and Ken moved to Saint Simons, Ga. She was an active member of the ECW of Christ Church, St. Simons Island. Services to celebrate the life of Virginia were held at Christ Church, 6329 Frederica Road, St. Simons Island, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014. After the service, the family received friends at the parish hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christ Church Frederica, designated for The Food Bank. Edo Miller & Sons Funeral Home has assisted the family with the arrangements.
