MOUNT AIRY — Mr. Winford Reid Adams, 82, of Mount Airy, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at Golden Living Center. He was born Aug. 29, 1931, in Surry County, to the late Granville McKinley and Lilla Gammons Adams. Mr. Adams was a member of Westview Baptist Church where he was a deacon and the eldest member. He retired from Mosley and Reece as sales manager and worked in grocery management his entire life. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Reba Ellen White Adams of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Ellen Adams of Mount Airy; grandchildren, Jennifer Adams Doby and husband, Chad Doby, of Mount Airy, and Judson and wife, Stacie Adams, of King; great-grandchildren, Brittany Ellen Doby, Kirsten Leigh Doby, Holden Reid Adams and Olivia Renee Adams; and sisters, Irona Ledford of King and Katrina Hiatt of Mount Airy. In addition to his parents, Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his sisters, Mabel Goad and Myrtle Branch, and brother, Wesley Adams. The funeral service will be held on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Westview Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Darren Slate with interment to follow at Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Adams will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Howell Funeral Service of Mount Airy.
