GREENSBORO — Mr. Arless Monroe Long, 82, of Greensboro, passed away Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, at the VA Medical Center in Salisbury. Mr. Long was born in Surry County on Dec. 19, 1931, to Meggs Fentrice and Kate Ann Davenport Long. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy and was retired from Triad Freightliner. Mr. Long also worked for McLean Trucking for 21 years. Surviving are special companion, Margaret Jones of Greensboro and her family; daughter, Pat Newsome and sons Shane, Rusty and wife Amanda; sons, Terry, Bill and wife Martha, their children, Martin and wife Heather, Megan and husband Jim, Colleen and husband Ryan; a granddaughter, Renee; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Long was preceded in death by sons, Darren Long and Jeffery Long; sisters, Lillian Dawson and Christine Long; and a brother, William Long. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at Oakdale Cemetery by the Rev. Bill Watson. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home beginning at 9:30.
