CANA, Virginia — Mr. Burley Gray Johnson Sr., age 77, of Cana, VA, was called home to be with the Lord Thursday, May 22, 2014 at the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home. He was born July 31, 1936 to the late Troy & Surrilda Ferguson Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a retired truck driver from A & W Trucking and his last job was at White Pines Country Club. Mr. Johnson was of the Christian Faith. Burley had many skills including electrician and carpenter skills. He loved golfing, hunting, and had 12 wonderful years fishing at Lake Norman. He had many friends and will be truly missed by all. Leaving to cherish his memory is his loving companion and fiancé of 21 years Shirley Hall of the home; daughters & son-in-law, Darlene & Kenneth Potts of Claudville, VA, Vicky & Steven Hall of Hillsville, VA and Tammy & Richard "Louis" Hiatt of Mount Airy, NC; son & daughter-in-law, Burley Gray Johnson Jr. & Glenda Johnson of Mount Airy, NC; grandchildren, Dawn, Ginny, Tommie & Matthew; Michael Lee, Emily, Christy, Kayla, Martina & Braydon; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters & brother-in-law, Wilma Taylor & Sue & Charles Linville of White Plains, NC and brother, Truman Johnson of Mount Airy, NC. Also leaving to cherish his memory are many more family members and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by sons, William Bartley "Bart" Johnson & Michael Wayne "Pickle" Hall; sister, Velma Hodges and brothers, Wayburn, Elvis & Arvil "Bud" Johnson. Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 7 p.m. at Howell Funeral Service of Mount Airy conducted by Rev. Junior Ferguson. The family will receive friends Thursday at the funeral home from 6 p.m. until time of service.
