MOUNT AIRY — Mrs. Anna May Russell Gorley, age 82, of Mount Airy, died Thursday, July 24, 2014 at the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home. She was born June 17, 1932 at home on Fox Creek Farm in Lincoln County, Nebraska to the late Benjamin F. & Ellen Russell. Mrs. Gorley was a retired hairdresser and a member of Central United Methodist Church. Mrs. Gorley had a great passion for quilting. She was a member of the Surry Quilters and the Tuesday Morning Quilters. She quilted baby quilts and donated them to various hospitals. People from as far away as Arizona would send Ann quilts to quilt for them. Ann enjoyed baking bread and giving it away and after her husband passed away she made homemade ice cream to give away. Ann enjoyed her church and was proud of her family. Ann will be greatly missed by all. She is survived by her daughters & sons-in-law, Diane & Paul Kramer of Mount Airy, NC and Christy Ellen & Douglas Vadnais of Albuquerque, New Mexico; son, James Richard Gorley of Winnemucca, Nevada; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and brother & sister-in-law, Raymond E.& Donna Russell of Lone Tree, CO. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gorley was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Nelson Gorley; sisters, Elenita Anderson, Fern Wills & June McGinnis and brothers, Robert Russell, Tom Russell & Ben Russell. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at 3 p.m. at Central United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017 or to Central United Methodist Church, 1909 North Main Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
