Douglas Dunnam (1939 - 2014)

Charlotte — Douglas A. Dunnam, 75, passed away on August 18, 2014 at his home. He was born on January 29, 1939 in Vallejo, California, a son of the late Douglas Blanchard Dunnam and Florence Frary Dunnam. Doug spent his childhood in San Diego, California. Doug was an "All American" boy. In his early years, he was a paper boy and a Boy Scout. He was captain of his football team at Herbert Hoover High School, where he was also voted "Nicest Boy in School" by his graduating class of 730 students. He attended Utah State University on a football scholarship and majored in geology. After college, Doug served his country in the Marine Corps. He enjoyed a 25 year career as an Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, a career which he truly loved. Following his time in the FBI, he spent 15 years working for the security department at Bank of America. Doug maintained a lifelong love of the outdoors. In his retirement years, he enjoyed being a member of the Audubon Society, volunteering with the Catawba Land Conservancy, and painting nature scenes in his "art studio". He was overjoyed to become a grandparent in the past few years, and loved spending time with his grandson. Doug will be remembered for his kind and gentle nature, his open heart, and his love for friends and family. Doug is survived by his wife, Ann Lynch Dunnam; daughters, Sarah Padgett and Lynn Dunnam; sons-in-law, Tim Padgett and Eric Crespo; grandson, Carson Padgett; sister, Peggy Bryan; brother, Ed Dunnam and wife Sue Dunnam; sister-in-law, Gail Dunnam; sister-in-law Gail Miller and husband Dan Miller; and nine nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by parents, Douglas B. Dunnam and Florence F. Dunnam and brother, David Dunnam. A service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, August 23, 2014 in the chapel of Harry & Bryant, 500 Providence Rd., Charlotte. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers, to the Catawba Lands Conservancy, 105 W. Morehead Street, Charlotte, NC 28202.
