ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Jewell Alicia Mitchell Kutzer passed away unexpectedly on Sept. 7, 2013, at the age of 77 in St. Augustine. Born on Jan. 4, 1936, in Mount Airy, she was raised by her mother, Annie Mary Mabel Creed Mitchell; grandfather, Judge Anderson Edward Creed; and grandmother, Ellen Creed. She spent many summers with her beloved Aunt Bea (Thelma Virginia Creed Miller) and Uncle Bill in Texas and Florida. After marrying Charles Ashley Bradfield in Jacksonville, Fla., in 1954 and having three children, the family moved to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where they lived from 1966-1969. Jewell became a minister of Religious Science, and was the assistant minister in Jacksonville. After marrying Melvin D. Kutzer in 1983, they moved to St. Augustine and started the St. Augustine Church of Religious Science. She also became an author of two books, "Memories of Mayberry" and "Mayberry Momma's Food for the Soul and Body," and often performed as "The Mayberry Momma," giving her own twist on down-home country wisdom as a motivational humorist. Jewell was a dynamic and engaging speaker, a loving mother and true friend to everyone she met. She is survived by her three children, Ellen India of Sarasota, David Bradfield of St. Augustine and Bill Bradfield of Orange County, Calif.
