MOORESVILLE — Thelma Francis Secrest Kay, 95, of Mooresville, took her journey home on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013. She was born on March 22, 1918, in Mount Airy to the late Sena "Sis" Mathis and Charles "Matt" Secrest. Thelma loved to quilt, bake and decorate cakes, and take trips with family and friends. She was a charter member and was very active in her church Peninsula Baptist Church in Mooresville and was always of service to others. She was loved by all who knew her. She retired from Armour & Company in Charlotte followed by traveling and spending time with her family and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Elmer Watson Kay; seven sisters, Sara Lovill, Hattie Lovill, Linda Anderson, Evelyn Hudson, Carrine Dixon, Gladys Secrest and Bernice Secrest; and two brothers, Harless Secrest and Monroe Secrest. She leaves behind cherished memories to two children, Juanita Kay Smith and husband, John, of Rowland and Arless Dexter Kay and wife, Ginny, of Mooresville; grandchildren, James Kay of Mooresville, Kim Locklear and husband, Terry, of Loganville, Ga., Diana Locklear and husband, Lance, of Rowland, Jennifer Hartis and husband, Cameron, of Charlotte and Monique Hamel and husband, Barry, of Charlotte; and great-grandchildren, Haley, Lokoda, Tierra, and Sequoia Locklear, Kaylyn Hamel, Bailey Kay, Mason, Seth, and Logan Hartis. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Sept. 18, from 1 to 2 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville, followed by a service at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Robert Jackson officiating. Burial will follow the service at Forest Lawn West Cemetery in Charlotte. Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville, is serving the Kay family.
