ARARAT, Va. — Mrs. Georgia Etta Collins Puckett, 94, of Ararat, passed away Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. She was born in Patrick County on Jan. 18, 1919, to the late Thomas Thurman and Susan Minnie Bowman Collins. Mrs. Puckett was a homemaker and was a member of Doe Run Baptist Church. She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Dennis Patterson of Mount Airy, Linda Puckett of Ararat and Gaynell and Donald Thomas of Mount Airy; a son, Tommy Puckett of Ararat; grandchildren and spouses, Bethany and Doug Shepherd, Misti and Chris Mauldin, Shannon Haynes and fiancé Terry Corns, Casey Thomas, Donna Thomas, Amy and Curt Lawson; great-grandchildren, Cole Mauldin, Carson Mauldin, Jordan Upchurch, Ashton Lawson, Abigail Shepherd and Sarah Shepherd; a sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Jack Scott of Ararat; a brother and sister-in-law, James Clifford and Sue Collins of Fries; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Puckett was preceded in death by her husband, Herman R. Puckett; sons, Taylor Puckett and Herman Junior "Pete" Puckett; sisters, Alpha Collins, Betty Lou Thomas, Irene Bowman and Shirley Bowman; and brothers, Walter, Thurman and Harry Collins. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at 3 p.m. at Doe Run Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Vaughan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday at the church from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service and other times at the home of Betty and Dennis Patterson. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Doe Run Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Wade Bowman, 711 Doe Run Road, Ararat, VA 24053; or to Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
