ARARAT, Va. — Charles William Clement Jr. passed away Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at his home following an extended illness. He was born in Patrick County, VA., on Dec. 15, 1931, to the late Charlie William Clement Sr. and Nancy Matthews Clement. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War and retired from DuPont in Martinsville, Va. He loved to spend time on the family farm. He was an avid NASCAR fan and loved to play rook. He especially enjoyed time with his family and friends during his illness. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Carol Young Clement of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Charlie William Clement III and Sandra Harris Clement of Ararat, Va.; three daughters and a son-in-law, Lynn Clement Williams and Bob Williams of Bowling Green, Ky., Ann Clement of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Teresa Clement Nichols of Ridgeway, Va.; three stepsons, Ronald Wade Willis and wife, Mary Lynn, of Ararat, Va.; Stephen Gray Willis of Virginia Beach, Va., and Kevin Neil Willis and wife, Shelby, of Ararat, Va.; nine grandchildren, Ally Clement, Will Clement, Travis Nichols and wife, Harley, Amy Willis, Martha Willis Cole and husband, Justin Cole, Megan Willis, John Willis, Olivia Willis and Adam Willis; three great-grandchildren, Aubrey Nichols, Jackson Nichols and Kylee Nichols. He is also survived by a sister, Betty Clement Joyce and husband Oliver of Johnson City, Tenn., and by his first wife, Alice Jessup Clement of Ridgeway, Va. In addition to his parents, Mr. Clement was preceded in death by two brothers, James Robert Clement and Thomas Jefferson Clement, and four sisters, Hazel Clement Nunn, Annie Belle Clement, Ethel Clement Minter, and Olive Clement Lawrence. The funeral will be held Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013, at 2 p.m. at The Fellowship Church in Ararat, Va., conducted by the Rev. Monte Mitchell with interment to follow in the Clement Family Cemetery in Ararat, Va., with full military rites to be conducted by the Patrick County Veteran Memorial Honor Guard. Mr. Clement will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Howell Funeral Service of Mount Airy.
