Denny Hogan

Dennis "Denny" Wayne Hogan, 70, of Mt. Vernon, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, IN. He was born June 1st, 1947 the son of the late Clarence Edward Sr. and Ruth (Zoph) Hogan.

Denny graduated from Mt. Vernon Senior High School, Class of 1965. He was founder and owner of Hogan's Corvette and Auto Sales. His first love started in 1964 at the age of 17, where he began his corvette business in his backyard garage. In the 90's, Denny opened 2 corvette shops in downtown Evansville. He moved his corvette shop back to Mt. Vernon in 1996 while running his salvage yard and Auto Sales in Posey County, from the 1970s until his death. Denny loved his work and had a deep passion for his cars. He traveled often in his earlier years across the Midwest attending corvette shows and watching drag races.

Denny loved his family and spent much of his free time with his friends. On any given weekend, he could be found with his second favorite past time, dancing. In his latter years, Denny visited his shop everyday and developed a special place in his heart for pit bulls. He assisted in rescuing the dogs and was known as Grampie to a very special dog named, Gump.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Clarence Hogan Jr. and James Hogan; sister, Kathleen Brown.

He is survived by his daughter, Angi (Patrick) Helzer; stepson, Roy Felty; sisters, Pearl Wolf and Doris Griner.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 12, 2018, at First Church of the Nazarene, 424 Vine St., Mt. Vernon, IN, with Rev. Troy DeKemper officiating and burial to follow in Blacks Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until 11:00 am service time on Saturday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Posey Humane Society.

In memory of Denny, his 1998 Pace Car along with a memorial bench will be erected and on display at the National Corvette Museum in Boling Green, KY later this year.
