Dorothy Dieterle

Dorothy Faye (McGhee) Dieterle, 94, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2018. She was born September 7, 1923 in Illinois to the late Alva and Elma (Gott) McGhee.

Dorothy, a 1942 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School, was an accomplished baker and fantastic cook, who shared her pies and red velvet cakes with family, friends and patrons of Posey Lanes. She was employed for many years at Pioneer Seed in Mt. Vernon. Dorothy wed Butch on April 27, 1943 and began her family while he served in World War II, in the Pacific. She was a longtime member of the American Legion Owen Dunn Post 5 Auxiliary.

Dorothy, a resident of Bufkin, where she and Butch lived for 70 years, loved visiting with her large family and many friends. She also enjoyed attending American Legion gatherings, Mt. Vernon sporting events and traveling with family. Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years who passed in December 2017, William "Butch" Dieterle, with whom she loved to dance the Tennessee Waltz; beloved brothers, Robert and Donald McGhee.

She is survived by her four children, Sharon (Ralph) Juncker, Max (Dana) Dieterle, Rebecca Duncan, and Patti (Peter) Stevenson; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Shirley McGhee; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, March 29, 2018, at Schneider Funeral Home, 512 Main St., Mt. Vernon, IN, with Fr. Stephen Lintzenich officiating and private entombment to follow in Alexander Memorial Park.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until 11:00 am service time on Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Owen Dunn Post 5.
