Phyllis Lynn Spurr, D.O.(1960-2013)

FLATWOODS, Ky.-Dr. Phyllis Lynn Spurr, 53, of Flatwoods, formerly of Carrollton, Ky., died at Ashland Community Hospice on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, after a lengthy illness.
A memorial service will be conducted at 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, 809 Highland Ave., Carrollton. Visitation 3 p.m. until time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. Cremation has been chosen by the family.
Dr. Spurr was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Germany for most of her enlisted time. She achieved the rank of sergeant and was a Russian Linguist Specialist. She was present when the Berlin Wall was demolished.
She graduated from Carroll County High School in 1977 and earned a bachelor's degree in microbiology, biology and psychology from Northern Kentucky University in 2004. In 2009, she graduated from Pikeville College School of Osteopathic Medicine with her doctorate degree and worked at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital.
She loved to act in plays, loved to sing, dance, sew, read and travel. She loved and lived life to it's fullest, every day. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Jerry and Eileen Rowelett Spurr Moore of Bloomington, Ind.; two brothers, Michael (Donna) Spurr of Carrollton and Archie Brian (Patti) Spurr of Bedford; a sister Susan Spurr Clark of Erlanger, Ky.; a loving care-giver, Kimberly Martin of Flatwoods, Ky.; four nephews, Benjamin (Heather) Spurr of Milton, Ky., and Michael (Patricia) Spurr, Stephen Spurr, and Tommy Spurr, all of Carrollton; a niece, Sara Spurr (Matt) Frey of New York; a stepniece, Mary Elizabeth Yantz of Bedford; three uncles, Gary (Margaret Ann) Rowelett and Dennis Rowelett, both of Madison, Ind., and Tommy (Teresa) Spurr of Milton, Ky.; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Archie Spurr, her grandparents and an infant niece.
