Mr. Garland Kincheloe Allen (1925 - 2018)


Garland Kincheloe Allen, 92, of Carrollton, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, at the Carroll County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Breckinridge County, Ky., on March 18, 1925, to Everett W. and Ruey Pearl Kennedy Allen. Garland was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Carrollton and was a retired Head Lockman with the U.S. Army Corp. of Engineers operating the Markland Dam and Locks on the Ohio River at Gallatin County, Ky., and Switzerland County, Ind. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy where he attained the rank of Seaman First Class, while aboard the U.S.S. Whitehurst in the Pacific fleet from 1943–1946 and also was a member of the American Legion Post No. 41 in Carrollton, a Kentucky Colonel and an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Garland enjoyed being with his grandchildren, going to Point Park in Carrollton every morning to see the river and watch the boats, and listening to bluegrass music.
Survivors include his loving and dedicated wife, Shirley Payne Allen, whom he married on Feb. 14, 1960; a daughter, Carol S. (Charles) Stephenson of Shepherdsville, Ky.; three sons, Gary W. Allen of Pewee Valley, Ky., Joe (Kerry) Allen of Jacksonville, Fla. and Michael S. (Alicia) Allen of Naples, Fla.; 10 grandchildren, Eric Parks, Kurt Parks, Alexander Parks, Phillip Parks, Rachel Parks, Paige Parks, Sarah Allen, Stephanie Allen, Benjamin Allen and Meredith Allen. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Margie M. Arms; and a brother, Willard M. Allen.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, Jan. 8, 2018, at St. John Catholic Church in Carrollton with Msgr. William B. Nuehaus and the Rev. Johnson Thekkudan concelebrating. Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, 809 Highland Ave., in Carrollton was entrusted with the arrangements.
A second visitation was held Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in McQuady, Breckinridge County, Ky., with interment following in the St. Mary of the Woods Cemetery.
