Patricia C. (Pat) Benz, 88, died on May 5, 2012 at Arbor Glen, Bridgewater, NJ. Born in Kearny, NJ in 1924, Pat graduated from Lincoln High School in Jersey City in 1941. She married Donald W. Benz in 1943. Together they built a house in Warren, NJ in 1948. In 1959, after the youngest of her four children turned three, Pat went to work as a board secretary for school districts in Warren Township, Bernardsville, and Bound Brook, and a board secretary/business administrator in the Bridgewater-Raritan school district. After her retirement in 1985, she moved to the home she and her husband built in Saw Creek Estates, Bushkill, PA. The same skill and hard work that Pat applied to building houses was evident in all of her projects. Pat was president, vice president, secretary and treasurer of the Somerset County School Business Officials, secretary of the Elks' Ladies, superintendent of and teacher at the Primary Sunday School of the Martinsville Methodist Church, and a member of many groups including the Association of School Business Officials of the United States and Canada, the New Jersey Association of School Business Officials, the Middlesex Elks Lodge # 1488, the Embroiderers' Guild of America (Pocono Mountain Chapter), and the Saw Creek Women's Club. Among Pat's many hobbies were embroidering, gardening, and swimming.
Pat was predeceased by her parents, William Collins and Anna Aiguier Collins Monaco, and her husband of 54 years Donald W. Benz. Surviving are three daughters, Donna (Robert Robillard) of Bound Brook, Janet Spratford of San Diego, CA, and Patti of Mt. Laurel, NJ; a son William (Lucille) of Sun City West, AZ; seven grandchildren, Shirley Kemper of Nazareth, PA, Mark Hicken of Manhattan Beach, CA, Lisa Benz St. John (Graham) of Warren, NJ, William G. Benz (Kristine) of Torrance, CA, Kate Paquette (Richard) of Ardmore, PA, Jenna Spratford of West Los Angeles, CA, and Molly Dalton of Washington Township, NJ; and a great grandson Dylan Kemper of Warren, NJ.
Viewing will be on Friday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8pm at the Middlesex Funeral Home, 528 Bound Brook Rd., Middlesex, NJ. Cremation will be private. Middlesex Funeral Home and its staff are honored to serve the family of Patricia C. Benz.
