Karl Alexander Leiter
AGE: 54 • Fernandina Beach, Fla.
Karl Alexander Leiter, 54, of Fernandina Beach, FL, formerly of Berkeley Twp, NJ, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, in California. He was born in Toronto Canada on Sept. 1, 1958 to Alexander and Maria Leiter and grew up in Berkeley Twp. Karl graduated from Central Regional H.S. in 1976 and joined the Navy, serving his country honorably. He was employed by Horizon Lines in Long Beach, CA as a merchant seaman for many years. Karl was also a longtime member of the Seafarers' International Union and served as an official of the organization.
He was predeceased by his father, Alexander, in 1988. Karl is survived by his daughter, Rachel Leiter; his beloved mother, Maria Leiter of Whiting; his brothers, John Leiter of Toms River, Eric Leiter of Forked River, Kurt Leiter of Vancouver, Canada, Mark Leiter of Lacey Twp., and Al Leiter of Summit; his sister, Alexia Dunkley of Forked River; 15 nieces and nephews, whom he cherished; and his dear aunt and uncle, Terry and Bill Airey of Canada.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 at the Pine Beach Chapel, 501 Hillside Ave., the corner of Hillside and Huntington Aves. in Pine Beach. A reception will follow services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund Effort, c/o Chief Thomas Boyd of Seaside Heights Police Department, 116 Sherman Ave., Seaside Heights, NJ 08751 in Karl's memory. Cremation was private.

I remember very well our baseball days at Central. He had a canon for an arm.
