AGE: 99 • Monroe

Samuel Brkal, 99, on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather took his final breath before being eternally reunited with God. Sam shared a 73 year marriage with his beautiful wife Susan Brkal who together worked their entire lives to live the American Dream. Born in New York City he was raised in Czechoslovakia and moved back to New York at the age of 18, later moving to Princeton in 1957 and then Monroe in 1991. Samuel served during World War II with the Cival Defense Auxiliary with the New York Fire Department. He was employed for many years as a driver and building superintendent for Gund Investments. Sam was a charter and active member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, Lifetime member of the Griggstown Volunteer Fire Company, Past-President of the American- Czechoslovak Farmers Club, Hightstown and Past Member of the Princeton Elks 2129.

Son of the late Samuel and Ann (Shrka) Brkal, he is survived by his beloved wife of 73 years, Susan (Stefik) Brkal; 2 sons and 2 daughters-in-law, Milan John and Judy Brkal, Robert Samuel and Debi Brkal; 5 grandchildren, Tammy Rowe, Sherry Brkal, Danielle Cranwell, Stacie Terebey, Kevin Brkal; 5 great-grandchildren, Lyndsay, Christopher, Cameron, Henry and Charlie.

The funeral will be held on Friday, January 17, 2014, 10:00 am from the M.J. Murphy Funeral Home, 616 Ridge Road at New Road, Monmouth Junction. The funeral service will be 11:00 am at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 3330 Highway 27, Kendall Park. Burial will follow in the Ten Mile Run Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday, January 16, 2014 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church, 3330 Highway 27, Kendall Park, NJ 08824.
