Gottlieb, Richard L. - 72, South Burns  
Richard L. Gottlieb AGE: 72 • South Burns Richard L. Gottlieb died Tuesday, September 27, 2016, at the VA New Jersey Health Care System in Bernards Township. He was 72. Born in Somerville, NJ, he resided in Franklin Township before moving to South Brunswick, where he lived for 10 years. Prior to his retiring, he was a security officer for Allied Barton, where he worked for 10 years. A United States Marine Corps veteran, he served from 1963 to 1967. Richard was predeceased by his lifelong companion, Joy Glaser, in 2016. Surviving are his brother, Meyer Gottlieb of Livingston; his sister, Paula Gottlieb of Long Branch; nephew, Glenn Gottlieb; and niece, Melissa Gottlieb. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, September 29th, 10:45 am, at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge, under the direction of MOUNT SINAI MEMORIAL CHAPELS ( www.msmc.us ), East Brunswick.

Guerra, Eugene P. - 67, Milltown  
Eugene P. Guerra AGE: 67 • Milltown Eugene P. Guerra, of Milltown, passed away Sunday, September 25, 2016 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 67. Born and raised in Kearny, NJ, he has lived in Milltown for the past 30 years. Before retiring in 2008, Eugene was a research technician for UMDNJ - RWJ Medical School for 30 years. He graduated from Essex Catholic High School in 1967, and received his BA in Zoology from Rutgers Newark in 1971, his MS in Biology from Seton Hall in 1974, and his MS in Public Health from Rutgers Newark in 1981. A community activist, he was a member of the Shade Tree Commission in Milltown and Rutgers Gardens. He enjoyed the time he spent with his daughter, photography, gardening, ancestry, history and films. Eugene is survived by his wife JoAnn Humphrey-Guerra and his daughter Emmarose of Milltown; and his cousins Elenore Cora-Ross, Alfred Guerra, Dennis Paserchia and Thomas Paserchia; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jill and Christopher Luciano and nephew Thomas; his best buddy, Anastacia and many other relatives and friends. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, October 1st, 10:30 am, at The Crabiel Home for Funerals, 170 N. Main St-at Riva Avenue, Milltown. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call on Friday, from 4:00 - 8:00 pm at the funeral home. Marie M. Gagliano AGE: 86 • Belford Marie M. Gagliano, 86, of Belford, NJ, died on September 24, 2016 at CareOne King James in Atlantic Highlands, NJ. She was born in Jersey City, NJ to the late Massimo and Lena Fiore and lived in Middletown since 1960. Marie was a parishioner of St. Mary's Parich for over 60 years. She was a member of the St. Mary's Senior Group and the KnitWits, the St. Mary's knitting club. Surviving are her children, Gale Houlihan of Long Branch, Donna and Stephen Page of Atlantic Highlands, and Gerard and Lisa Gagliano of Atlantic Highlands; her 7 grandchildren, Michael, Colleen, Kelly, Dana, Melissa, Kate and Tess; and her 5 great-grandchildren, Tate, Maeve, Kyle, Michael, and Emily. Marie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Michael T. Gagliano and her son-in-law, George Sink, both in 2009. A Memorial Mass will be offered on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at St. Mary's Chapel, 26 Leonardville Rd., Middletown the Mass time will be posted to the funeral home website. Garruto, Patsy - 90, West Long Branch  
Patsy Garruto AGE: 90 • West Long Branch Patsy Garruto, 90, of West Long Branch, died Saturday, September 17, 2016 at home. He was born and raised in Newark and lived in Long Branch before moving to West Long Branch 65 years ago. He was a member of the NARFE. Patsy served in the US Army during World War II and received a Purple Heart for injuries during battle. He was a systems analyst at Fort Monmouth before retiring. Patsy enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, he loved to swim, travel and entertain at his house. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Eleanor in 2010; his parents, Clemente and Caterina Garruto and sister, Frances Tufo. Surviving are his daughters, Kathleen and Doreen Garruto. Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 9-11 am Monday at the Fiore Funeral Home, 882 Broadway, West Long Branch. Barbara Gates AGE: 72 • Somerset Barbara Gates, 72, died Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Park Place Center in Monmouth Jct., New Jersey. Mrs. Gates was born and raised in Ossining, New York the daughter of James K. Fitch and Rena (Johnson) Fitch. She relocated and settled in Somerset with her husband in 1962. Barbara was a crossing guard for Franklin Township, for forty years. She was active in the High School Band parents and in her free time, she enjoyed Kitting. Mrs. Gates was predeceased by her brothers, Donald Fitch and Steven Fitch; and her sister, Mimi. She is survived by her loving husband, David Gates; her son David J. Gates and his wife Sarah; her daughter, Suzanne Gates and her grandson, Daniel Gates. Visitation will be held at Gleason Funeral Home 1360 Hamilton Street, Somerset, NJ 08873 on Friday, September 24th from 7-9 PM. Christos Gavalas AGE: 84 • Tinton Falls Christos Gavalas, 84, of Tinton Falls, Died Saturday at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. He was born in Greece before coming to the United States living in Tinton Falls. He was a painter before retiring and a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Ocean Township. Surviving are his godchildren, George Tsakiris and Ariana Taylor. Visitation will be from 9:00 am until his funeral service at 9:30 am Tuesday at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Ocean Township. Burial will follow at St. George's Cemetery in Neptune.
