Alfred Galkin 92 of Hallandale, Fl., entered into eternal rest Saturday at the Haven Hospice at J F K Medical Center in Edison. He was born in Hoboken, lived in Israel for 10 years before moving to Hallandale 15 years ago. Alfred retired in 1975 after owning a cigar store in Hoboken for 40 years. He was an army
veteran of WW II and was active and served as an officer with the Jewish War Veterans. He was a volunteer guard in Natanya, Israel patrolling the streets with the police during the time he lived there after his retirement. He was a strong supporter and donated an ambulance to Israel.
Alfred was predeceased by his wife Claire a holocaust survivor who died in 2000. He is survived by 3 nephews Gary Rosenberg of NYC, Dr. Edwin Galkin and Dr. Samuel Galkin of Edison, and a niece Hannah Del Carpane of Bayonette Point, Fl.
Graveside services will be held on Monday December 19, 2011 at 12:30 pm at Riverside Cemetery in Rochelle Park.
