Alma Rose Brown
AGE: 94 • Ship Bottom, NJ
Alma Rose Brown (née Guille) died on Friday, September 20, 2013, at the age of 94. She was surrounded by family. Alma was born in Westville, New Jersey, on April 22, 1919, one of 13 children. She was captain of the cheerleading squad at Haddon Heights High School, where she earned the nickname "Frenchy," and after graduation worked for RCA in Camden. In 1943, Alma took the train across the country to Vallejo, California, to marry Harry Brown, who attended the same high school before enlisting in the US Navy. She and Harry lived happily together, with their seven children, until Harry's death in 1977. Alma resided in Philadelphia, Chews Landing, Haddon Heights, and Runnemede before settling in the house she loved on East 20th Street in Ship Bottom, on Long Beach Island. Alma was a world traveler with a quick wit and an open mind, an outspoken, spirited storyteller who knew, and imparted, the importance of family, and humor, adventure, and the beach.
Alma is survived by her children, Patricia Alma Smith, Michael Kristop Brown, Timothy Harry Brown, Kathleen Brown Gilbert, Susan Nancy Kaszas, Jeffry Alfred Brown and Gregory Matthew Brown, as well as 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
