Anastasia Zgid (Szczomak), 89, died peacefully in Sarasota, Fl on Friday, Oct. 26, 2012 after battling with lung cancer. Anastasia was born in Poland, October 13, 1923, moved to Newark, NJ then resided in Monroe Township, NJ and just recently moved to Sarasota, Fl. Beloved wife of the late Edward Zgid and Walter Byszewski. Anastasia was a survivor of the WWII labor camp in Germany before arriving to the USA and settled in NJ. Her experience in owning restaurants and catering facilities was where she gained a zest for life which she shared with those around her. She owned Shady Grove in Newark, NJ for nine years and Monroe Manor in Monroe Twp for 18 years. The vivaciousness and tenacity which she lived took her through the last days of her life.

She is survived by her five daughters, Maria Schmid of Sarasota, Fl, Irene Carruolo and husband Ralph of Sarasota, FL, Theresa Madreperla and husband Scott of Farmingdale NJ, Barbara Bahlman and husband Paul of Burlington, CT, and Christina Whitney and husband Glenn of Miami, FL, and her "son," Vladimir Levtchenko of Brooklyn, NY. She adored all of her seven grandchildren, Robert Blevins of Boston, MA, Jenni Fishbein and husband Greg of W. Orange, NJ, Vicki Blevins of Burlington, VT, Shelby and Lauren Tudor of Miami, FL, Brielle and Michael Bahlman of Burlington, CT. And her only great-grandchild, Jones Fishbein. She also leaves behind her sister, Irene in the Ukraine and her many nieces and nephews. She cherished her family and friends, and all who knew her will miss her warmth and generosity of spirit. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 19th at 11am at St. James The Less Church - Jamesburg. Contributions in her memory may be made to Tidewell (Hospice), 5955 Rand Blvd, Sarasota, Fl 34338. Plans to return Anastasia to NJ with memorial services T.B.A. for May, 2013.
