Arthur Charles "Grunzi" Ryan, 88, Atlantic Highlands, died Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Riverview Hospital in Red Bank. Arthur was born in Springfield, MA, and he spent most of his life in Eatontown, NJ with his wife, Alice Theresa McGill. He graduated from Cathedral High School in Springfield, MA in 1942 and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. There he served on the USS Cutlass during WWII. After being honorably discharged in 1946, Arthur worked at SATCOM in Fort Monmouth, NJ as an electrical engineer. He also held various positions at Fort Monmouth Signal School, Brookdale Community College, and Monmouth Park Race Track. Arthur was an active member of the US Submarine Veterans of WWII.

Arthur is predeceased by his wife, Alice Theresa McGill. Surviving are his five daughters, Patricia and her husband William Gonska of Mahwah; Maureen Verzi of Delran; Alice and her husband Wayne Wiebalk of Tinton Falls, Deirdre and her husband Peter of Jewett, New York, Kathleen and her husband James Maziarz of Maryland; his two sisters Marilyn Dunphy and Lois Ryan both of Massachusetts; his brother Fulton Ryan of Maine, fourteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and his long time companion Shirley Niesz.

A viewing will be held at the Braun Funeral Home, 106 Broad Street, Eatontown, NJ on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michaels RC Church, West End on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at 10:30 AM. Entombment will follow at Holmdel Cemetery.
