BEN A. ROTH died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 at the Capitol Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton. He was 89. Born in Brooklyn, NY, on August 21, 1923, he has resided in Monroe Township since 1967. He graduated from "Boys High School" and went on to attend Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute, School of Engineering, with a major in Aeronautical Engineering.

Ben entered the military service in March, 1942, at Camp Upton, NY. He trained in Basic Advanced Tank Warfare with the Thunderbolt Division at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He was unexpectedly transferred to Kessler A.F.B., Biloxi, MS, processed and assigned to the 654 A.F.B, Air Transport Command, Memphis, TN. Ben married in 1945. They had 2 children; a son, Kenneth, and a daughter, Michele, who gave him 4 grandchildren. His second wife, Ann, passed away in September, 1985. Prior to retiring in 1985, Ben was a sales executive for Holland- Rantos Division of Young Drug Company, where he worked for 35 years.

He was a scoutmaster for many years with Troop 444 in Brooklyn. He formerly was a member of the Monroe Township Council from 1974 through 1978, having served as Council Vice President from 1976 through 1978; and was a recipient of numerous awards for service to the Township. He belonged to the Township Historical Commission as well. In 1947, he organized the Lt. Blacked Blumberg, J.W. V. Post. In 1981, he organized Clearbrook Post #395, serving as Commander for three years. In the mid- 90's, he organized Concordia Post #609, and served as County Commander, Central New Jersey County Council; 3rd District Vice Commander, 1995-1997; NEV; and Chief Aide to Department Commander, Dr. Murray Blumberg, 1998-1999. Ben has received many awards in recognition of his service to the Jewish War Veterans, including: Post Commander of the Year, County Commander, District Vice Commander and "Best Scrapbook" as Post Commander. He was a life member of the National Museum of Jewish Military History. In addition, he served as Commander of Post 4, New York; District Deputy Grand Master 4th Manhattan District; and Grand Lodge Free and accepted Mason, State of New York. He was past president and member of the Clearbrook Community Association, Board of Directors; the Township Historical Commission; and Department of New Jersey Jewish War Veterans, Commander. At the National Convention, J.W.V. in August, 2003, he was awarded and recognized as the state Commander of the Year, 2001-2002. He was then Deputy State Adjutant; ran the state office of N.J. J. W. V., Trenton, and was the N.J. State J. W. D. Political Representative. Surviving are his son, Kenneth D. Roth and his wife Sharon of Medford; daughter, Michele Ballet and her husband Dr. Fred Ballet of Philadelphia, PA; a sister, Bertha Milstein of Brooklyn, NY; 4 grandchildren: Sari, Scott, Jason and Lucas; and 3 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Feb 13, 2013 11:45 AM, at the MOUNT SINAI MEMORIAL CHAPELS, Cranbury Road at Evergreen Boulevard, followed by interment at Floral Park Cemetery, South Brunswick.
