Benjamin L. Vitanza died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 79. Born in New Brunswick he had lived in South Brunswick before moving to Barnegat seven years ago. He had worked at Bristol Myers Squibb for 18 years before becoming the owner of the North Brunswick School of Music and then Vitanza's Country Place in North Brunswick. He was a musician since he was a young teenager and was a member of the New Brunswick Local of the Musician's Union. He also repaired instruments for local schools. Mr. Vitanza was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion Post #232 in Barnegat, the Loyal Order of the Moose, Lodge #263 in South Brunswick and the Holiday Beach Club in Waretown.

He is predeceased by his parents, Anthony Vitanza Sr. and Mary Taormina Vitanza; and a brother, Vincent. Surviving are two sons, Jeffrey Vitanza and his wife Josera of North Brunswick and Timothy Vitanza of Bordentown; two daughters, Amy DeLorenzo and her husband Carmen of Milltown and Allison Majkowski and her husband Edward of Annandale; a brother, Tony Vitanza of North Brunswick; and seven grandchildren, Nunziatina Vitanza, Gianna DeLorenzo and Edward III, Kyle, Frankie, Faith and Charles Majkowski.

Funeral services will be 9:15 AM Friday from Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick followed by a 10:00 AM Mass at Our Lady of Peace R.C. Church in North Brunswick. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery in New Brunswick. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home Thursday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM.
