Donald F. Sprout, age 79, passed away on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, following a brief illness. The son of Margaret and Harold Sprout, Donald was born on May 9, 1933, and grew up in Princeton, New Jersey, where his father was a professor in the Politics Department at the University.
Donald held a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Bowling Green State University in Ohio and a Master of Arts in Education from Seton Hall University in New Jersey. His professional career included a variety of positions within the New Brunswick Public School system and, from 1982 until his retirement in 2001, Media Specialist and Grant Writer for the Somerset County Vocational and Technical Schools. Donald was an avid and talented photographer and a life-long classical music enthusiast. His fondness for animals, especially birds and dogs, and his fierce loyalty to the Pittsburgh Pirates (baseball) and Pittsburgh Steelers (football) teams were overshadowed only by his love for, appreciation of and loyalty to his family and friends. Donald's wife of 33 years, Edith, predeceased him in October 2005. Predeceased also by his parents and his grandson, Lee, he is survived by his daughters Rita Osak of Franklin Park, New Jersey, and Jeanette Eisenmesser of Smithtown, Long Island (NY); by his sister Elisabeth Sprout McDonald of South Salem, New York; by his grandchildren Andria Ellerd of Carrollton, Texas, Robbi Bartolotta of New York City and Brett Eisenmesser of Carson City, Nevada; by seven great grandchildren; and by three nephews and seven great nieces and nephews. Donald was a very kind, thoughtful and generous man who will be cherished always and dearly missed by those whose lives he touched. Visitation will be from 2-4:30 & 7-9pm Wed. at Gleason Funeral Home 1360 Hamilton St. Somerset, NJ 08873. The funeral service will begin at 11am Thurs. at the funeral home.
