Dorothy M. Walling
AGE: 85 • Avon-By-The Sea
Dorothy M. Walling, age 85, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 1, 2012. She was born in Jersey City, where she lived for 65 years and raised her family prior to moving to Avon-By-The-Sea. In addition to rearing five children, Dot worked as a secretary at St. Aloysius Grammar School in Jersey City. She enjoyed going to the beach with her children and grandchildren, attending daily Mass, playing cards with her friends, and spending time with her family at every opportunity.
Dot is survived by her loving children, Joan Ann Casserly (Michael) of Sussex and Belmar, David Walling (Ellen) of Brielle, Barbara McNally (Michael) of Jersey City and Neptune City, Maureen Harrison (Richard) of Oceanport and Patricia McGrorry (William) of Ocean Township. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren - Sean, Michelle, Kacey, Kerri, Patrick, Megan, Erin, Michael, Kelly, Shannon, Jimmy and Maggie - and one great-grandson, Colin. Dorothy is predeceased by her husband of 43 years, James E. Walling, a lifelong educator, coach, and Athletic Director at St. Michaels and St. Aloysius High Schools in Jersey City; and her siblings Mary Chapman (James), David Dineen (Anne) and Grace Anderson (James).
Visiting hours are Tuesday, November 6 from 1-4pm (however please contact the funeral home on Monday to confirm the times) at O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35, Wall. The funeral mass will be on Wednesday at 11am at St. Aloysius Church, 691 West Side Ave, Jersey City. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Dear Walling Family, I am so sorry to hear of your Mom's passing - I have such fond memories of her growing up - She was a beautiful woman both inside and outside.

We have fond memories growing up in Jersey City and the Easters at the Walling house. She was a wonderful and caring person and will be missed by all.

To the family of Dot Walling, please accept my deepest sympathy on the loss of your beloved Mom. I was fortunate and privileged to have worked with her at St. Al's for 12 years. She taught me the ropes and I appreciated everything she did for me. She was a kind and wonderful women. She will truly be missed.
