AGE: 85 • Keyport

Douglas L. Rezac, 85 of Keyport, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2013 at home following a long illness. Mr. Rezac was born in Manhattan and was raised and lived in Staten Island before moving to Keyport in 1978. He loved the water, boating and was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed cooking and family gatherings. Mr. Rezac loved his country and enlisted in the Merchant Marine in 1943, at age 16. He then transferred to the Army Air Force in 1945, and served until 1947. Mr. Rezac had various occupations and a taxi-cab business during his lifetime. He eventually settled as an oil barge deckhand where he made captain and had a long career retiring in the late 1980's. Mr. Rezac was dubbed "Pop Gadget" by his family. He was the original "jack of all trades". He enjoyed and spent years fixing and repairing what ever his friends and family needed. If it was broke he would fix it or get it running.

Douglas is pre-deceased by two brothers; George and Donald and a sister Carol. Surviving are four sons; David, Doug, Greg and Jim. His brother; Warren and sisters; Beverly Peersen and Rita Balderson; 8 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be offered, 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 24th at St. Catherine's R.C. Church in Middletown. Interment will follow with military honors in Green Grove Cemetery, Keyport.
