Francis J. Cronin, 72, of Sea Girt, died on Thursday, November 29, 2012, at Sunnyside Nursing Home in Manasquan, at the end of a ten year battle with frontal lobe dementia. Frank was passionate in his commitment to family, the Jersey Shore, and quality health care in the United States. Born in Elizabeth, N.J., on February 22, 1940, he attended The Peddie School and spent his summers in Sea Girt. A graduate of Georgetown University, he received an MBA from The George Washington University School of Health Services and Management. He held executive management positions at The Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation, St. Joseph Hospital in Stamford, CT, and was CEO of The Elliot Hospital in Manchester, N.H. and Health Alliance in Leominster MA, as well as Executive Vice President at Sharp Healthcare in San Diego, CA. Most recently he was CEO at Christ Hospital in Jersey City. Strongly concerned with advancing the quality of healthcare and health management, he served as Chairman of the New Hampshire Hospital Association, chairman of the American College of Healthcare Executives, and trustee of the American Hospital Association. In 1994 he was named Healthcare Executive of the Year by the American Academy of Medical Administrators and was awarded the Frederick H. Gibbs Award for excellence in graduate education in Healthcare Management by The George Washington University School of Health Services and Management. In 2007 he received the Lifetime Achievement Award of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Equally committed to community service, Frank was on the boards of various health related organizations in New England and California. He was a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary. After moving to Sea Girt permanently in 1997, he served on the board of the Visiting Nurse Association of Central Jersey, the Meridian Health Community Advisory Council and the Spring Lake/Brielle Morning Rotary.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Maureen, and two daughters, Cathleen Cronin Farago of Cranford and Kelly Cronin Oldroyd of Little Silver. He leaves four much beloved grandchildren: Caitlin and Ryan Farago and Aoife and Fionn Oldroyd. He also leaves two sisters, Patricia Cronin Buckley of Spring Lake and Maureen Cronin Wenzler of Sea Girt, and seven nieces and nephews. All will miss his love of the beach, the summer sun and the community.

Visitation will take place at O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy. 35, at New Bedford Road, Wall, N.J., on Wednesday, December 5, 2012, from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mark's Church, Sea Girt, on Thursday, December 6, 2012, at 9:30 A.M., followed by interment at St. Gertrude's Cemetery, Colonia, N.J.
