Gary William Smyth 72, of Spring Lake Hts., died Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012, at his home. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Gary lived Glen Rock, NJ, New York City, and Mountain Lakes, NJ before moving to Spring Lake Hts. in 2006. He was a graduate of Ridgewood High School and Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA where he earned Business & Engineering degrees. Gary served in the U.S. Navy from 1960-1962. He worked as a bond trader in New York City before retiring in 2006. Gary was a parishioner of St. Catharine's Church, Spring Lake. He volunteered at the soup kitchen in Asbury Park, as well as Meals on Wheels. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Denville. Gary enjoyed walking the Spring Lake boards and classic movies and was a fan of Lehigh sports especially football and wrestling. He was an avid dancer and singer who loved living life to the fullest with his family and friends.

Gary was predeceased by his brother, Neptune "Frosty" Smyth. Surviving are his beloved wife of 36 years, Kathleen Carroll Smyth; 2 loving daughters, Jennifer Smyth Griffith and her husband Andrew of Richmond, VA and Caitlin Smyth of New York City, NY, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

A Funeral Mass was offered yesterday at St. Catharine's Church, Spring Lake. Committal will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Asbury Park Soup Kitchen, 503 Asbury Ave., Asbury Park, NJ 07712.
